Day 3 of SASES Training: Focused Learning in Core Subjects (Biology and English Language)

Day 3 of the SASES Training Programme marked another important phase in strengthening the capacity of Master Trainers through subject-focused learning and practical instructional development. The initiative, funded by the TY Danjuma Foundation through a grant awarded to the Alkali Hussaini Foundation, continued its mission of equipping educators with the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to improve teaching and learning outcomes at the grassroots level.

The day’s sessions focused specifically on Biology and English Language, providing participants with an opportunity to deepen their subject knowledge while exploring effective approaches for classroom delivery. The subject-specific structure allowed for more targeted discussions, practical activities, and meaningful engagement between trainers and facilitators.

The English Language session focused on enhancing communication skills and effective classroom instruction. Participants explored key areas such as grammar, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and strategies for improving language acquisition among learners. Facilitators introduced learner-centered approaches designed to make English lessons more interactive, engaging, and accessible to students at different learning levels.

The Biology session centered on strengthening participants’ understanding of key biological concepts while improving their ability to teach the subject effectively. Trainers engaged with topics relevant to the secondary school curriculum, with emphasis on simplifying complex scientific ideas, encouraging inquiry-based learning, and using practical examples to make lessons more relatable. The session also highlighted the importance of demonstrations and locally available teaching resources in enhancing students’ understanding of biological concepts.

Through interactive discussions, group activities, and practical demonstrations, participants were encouraged to share experiences, exchange ideas, and reflect on challenges faced within their various teaching environments. The focused subject sessions provided Master Trainers with valuable tools to enhance lesson delivery and support more effective learning experiences for students.

Day 3 of the SASES Training Programme further demonstrated the importance of continuous professional development in empowering educators and building a stronger foundation for quality education within communities.
