Alkali Hussaini Foundation
The ALKALI HUSSAINI FOUNDATION (AHF) is a Non-Government, Non- Political, Non-Profit making Community Based Organization registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria on 23rd May 2007 (Registration number CAC/IT/NO 23848) and is located in Kebbi State, North West Nigeria.
AHF’s mission is to empower and support communities through educational and vocational training to alleviate poverty, illiteracy and lead healthier lives. It seeks to uplift the level of education through interventions such as adult literacy classes for women, Islamic and western education, Continuous education for the girl child, computer education and support to orphans and vulnerable children.
About Us
Poverty Alleviation
Alkali Hussaini Foundation provides vocational skills training such as knitting, sewing, catering, hairdressing, cosmetics and detergent making. It also sponsors youths to undertake various training such as POP work, gardening, tiling and other skilled labour. The Foundation operates a Modern, fully equipped Multi-Purpose Skills Training Centre in Birnin Kebbi, the capital city of Kebbi State, Nigeria. All trainings at the center are provided free of charge. The AHF used to provide equipment and seed grants for women and youth on completion of their training to enable them earn a living, but this has since stopped due to lack of funding support.
The AHF envisions communities where poverty and diseases are eradicated and every member is empowered to become self-reliant and contribute to national development.
Education
The Foundation believes that education (both formal and informal) are key to the development of any society. We are therefore keenly focused on promoting education directly and in collaboration with government and other entities. We have purpose built classrooms where various trainings are held and we intervene also by giving scholarships to the needy, upgrading schools, provision of teaching aides and materials and ICT training. Some of our educational projects include:
- Adult literacy classes (this has been stopped due to lack of resources)
- Continuous Education for youth: a concept developed to give the youth, particularly young women and girls the opportunity to retake their exams and gain admission into tertiary institutions. AHF provided teachers to give girls intensive teaching for 3 months while the State government paid for their registration and exam fees. This program has also been stopped due to lack of resources.
- Provision of scholarships to orphans, indigent students and children with special needs to study at various institutions for leaning.
- ICT Training: AHF has 2 classrooms equipped with computers in which different categories of people within the community are trained to acquire basic ICT skills to enhance their capacity in their various fields. AHF has affiliation with the Adamu Aleiro University of Science and Technology to provide teachers for this purpose, thus some of the courses are certified. The Foundation has assisted the government and other organisations to provide ICT training for Secondary school teachers and civil servants. In view of the critical role of ICT in modern day development, up scaling this service will be very beneficial to the communities in Kebbi State.
- Islamiyya classes (Islamic Education classes for women): The communities where we operate being over 90% Muslim, there is always clamour from the community for continuous Islamic Knowledge. AHF since its inception offered continuous Islamic leaning for women and girls, which was very well embraced by the community. However due to inadequate funding support, this service is now only available at one of the Skills Acquisition Centres we oversee in Gwandu Local Government Area. Enhanced Islamiyya classes with well trained and knowledgeable teachers will be very beneficial to the community.
Health
Our Organization has a Health Department under which it participates in Partnership with Donors in health related Programs. Our major works in this perspective is as follows:
- Sensitization and Awareness Campaigns on health related issues.
- Mobilization of Womenfolk in Rural Areas to access health Services at Health Centers.
- Construction of Maternity and Delivery Rooms at Community Health Centers to Support Antenatal and Hospital Deliveries of new-born with a view to curtail prevalent Maternal and Child Deaths in Rural areas. A model of this was undertaken at Madadi Village Health Centre with support from the Swiss Embassy in Nigeria. We also provide Accommodation for the midwives who oversee the facilities.
Orphans Education Sponsorship Program
The Orphan education sponsorship program started in 2011/2012 academic session
following which about 40 orphans were enrolled into various schools.
The program has been re-opened in the year 2024/2025 academic session with 20
pupils/students including those with special needs being given support to pursue education
at various levels.
The Foundation has also created a Business support program to provide startup capital for
enterprising orphans and less privileged members of the society in order to help them
become self-sufficient and positively impact the society.
Orphans support is one of the areas the Foundation intends to partner with well-spirited individuals and organisations to scale up. With sufficient funding, this is a program that can support thousands of
orphans and indigent children to acquire education and support themselves, their families and the larger society.
Aims & Objectives.
- To provide education and awareness to the less privileged in society.
- To stimulate and develop income-generating alternatives for women/widows, youths, orphans, and physically challenged through training and the establishment of small business enterprises.
- To pursue programs that will generally reduce Poverty amd iliteracy, improve health and sanitation and uplift standard of living in communities
- To establish and promote the establishment of community centers for practical skills acquisition.
