Published: 5/5/2025

Sokoto State today witnessed the official flag-off of SASES Project 2025 Salvaging Science Education in Our Schools which is a bold initiative aimed at revitalizing science education across the state. The project will train 60 Master Trainers in Mathematics, Basic Science, English, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology, setting the foundation for improved teaching and learning outcomes in public schools. Funded by the TY Danjuma Foundation, with implementation by the Alkali Hussaini Foundation, the Programme seeks to address critical gaps in science education through hands-on, modern pedagogy. The selected Master Trainers will later step down the training to hundreds of other educators, ensuring widespread impact across schools in the state. The flag-off ceremony drew notable dignitaries, including the Commissioner of Information, Director of Quality Assurance, Special Adviser to the Governor on Humanitarian Affairs, Deputy Director of the Sultan Maccido Institute, and the Director of Finance from the Ministry of Budget and Planning. Their presence underscored the government’s support for the project and its alignment with Sokoto’s education and human capital development goals. In his remarks, the Commissioner of Information emphasized the state’s commitment to reversing the decline in science performance and creating a knowledge-driven economy. Representatives from the TY Danjuma and Alkali Hussaini Foundations reaffirmed their dedication to empowering educators and promoting sustainable education reform. As the programme begins, hopes are high that SASES will not only raise the bar for science education in Sokoto but also serve as a model for similar initiatives across Nigeria.
