Day 3 of 2025 SASES Programme

Day 3 of SASES Training: Focused Learning in Core Subjects(English Language, Mathematics and Basic Science) Today marked the third day of the SASES Training, an initiative funded by the Ty Danjuma Foundation through a grant awarded to the Alkali Hussaini Foundation. The program, which is designed to equip master trainers with essential teaching skills, continued with a strong focus on core academic subjects: English, Mathematics, and Basic Science. To ensure a practical and immersive learning experience, participants were divided into three separate groups. Each group rotated through dedicated sessions in the three subjects, allowing for concentrated instruction and hands-on engagement. This structure not only facilitated more personalized learning but also encouraged active participation among the trainees. The English session emphasized on communication strategies and classroom delivery techniques. Trainers explored grammar fundamentals, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension methods tailored to young learners. In the Mathematics session, the focus shifted to strengthening foundational numeracy skills and exploring innovative teaching methodologies. Participants were guided through arithmetic, basic algebra, and problem-solving strategies. They also learned how to break down abstract concepts into simpler, relatable terms that can be easily grasped by students at the grassroots level. Meanwhile, the Basic Science session aimed to build both content knowledge and instructional confidence. Trainers reviewed essential scientific principles, including topics in biology, physics, and chemistry relevant to primary and junior secondary education. Practical demonstrations and low-cost teaching aids were introduced to support science education in resource limited environments. The training’s format segregated by subject and delivered in smaller group proved effective in maintaining engagement and ensuring comprehension. It also gave participants(Master Trainers) ample opportunity to ask questions and share experiences relevant to their local teaching contexts.
